Gratitude and Thanksgiving

You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of another.

Charles Dickens

We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Albert Schweitzer

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.

Alphonse Karr

He said he got up to the line and thought about his wife and daughter, and everything he had to be thankful for.

Spoken after an interview with Derek Parra, immediately following his silver medal winning2002 Olympic performance.

Gratitude: A lively sense of future benefit. A French Definition

US Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor

None of those material possessions do anythingto make your life any better....I know a lot of people who have a lot of everything, and they're absolutely the most miserable people in the world. So it won't do anything for you unless you're a happy person and can have peace with yourself.

Daily Meditation

Hour To Hour - The First 30 Days',- by Shelly Marshall

If we are in the program on a basis of 'temporary permanence' (we'll stay until we find something better), then we need to re-evaluate.

Addiction is cunning, baffling, and powerful and will always convince us it's better than sobriety. We can only make this program if we commit ourselves each day, every day.

This hour I will not take a fix, pill, drink, smoke, or snort of any mind-affecting chemical.

Failure Is Not An End

What To Do If We Fail
By Georgy ------

What to do if we fail?

A journalist was interviewing the chairman of a reputed company. “What is the secret of your success?”, the journalist asked. “Taking the correct decision – it is the secret of my success”, said the man. “How could you practice yourself in taking the correct decisions?” “Experiences taught me.” “How could you manage to get those experiences?, the journalist raised another question. “Through the wrong decisions and I learnt from its consequences,” replied the chairman.

There are failures in the life of every victorious one. There can be none who did not have a failure. All the Apostles failed once. There was failure in the life of Abraham, the father of the faithful. Moses who had been a law giver, chosen one to liberate the people of Israel and the greatest leader of human history, had failed in life. David, the man after the heart of God and the glorious king of Israel too had failures in his life.

Though they had failures, they became successful men because they did not see failure as an end. They were not ready to give up life in front of failures. They continued their journey of life depending on God.

So, we should never see our failures and shortcomings as the end of everything. There is yet more life. Restart with much more hope. Don’t get frozen thinking over the drawbacks in prayer life and spiritual ministry. Start again anew.

You may be a person who failed miserably in the academic life, work place or in business. Failure is not an end. Get up and move forward. Your life will surely turn out to be a success.
Do not grow introvert over the frail family and personal relationships. There is enough time and more opportunities. Look with hope into the future and restart the journey of life.

It is not the failures that decide the success of life. Instead, it is what we think and act after our failures. The prophet says, “those who trust in the Lord will stand up even though they fall, they shall rise up on wings like eagles.”

Prayer:
Lord, strengthen our faith as if no failures could shatter. Teach us not to see failures as an end but as an opportunity for a new beginning. Make us convinced that the success of life is not always being victorious or not committing any mistake. Bless us with trust and hope in order to move forward in our life without giving away to despair. Amen.

FEAR

"I tell you not to worry about everyday life -- whether you have enough." Matthew 6:25

Fear is a mean and selfish girlfriend. She takes all of your time if you let her, bugs you endlessly, robs you (of your peace of mind), demands all of your attention and will consume your mind, spirit and body wreaking havoc and leaving you weak at the knees. Oh yes, she absolutely refuses to share you with anyone so you will find yourself alienating your friends and family. She will, however, share you with her best friend, Worry. Together they will tag team you into a vortex of despair with no return.

If she sounds like the girl for you, think twice. When she's through with you, you will die spiritually and physically. She'll leave you with her trademark gray hair, tired eyes, empty spirit, and some kind of health problem, for sure.

There is no fear that can't be resolved by turning to God. He told us:

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Luke 11:9)

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. (John 15:7)

Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mark 11:24)

He is no liar.

If you need practical advice on HOW to do this, here are eight worry-stoppers as written by Max Lucado in his book FEARLESS:

1. Pray first. (God should be your first resort, not your last)
2. Easy, now. Slow down. "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him" (Ps. 37:7)
3. Act on it. Become a worry-slapper. Treat frets like mosquitoes. As easily as you would swat a pesty mosquitoe, be equally decisive with anxiety. The moment a concern surfaces, deal with it. Be a doer, not a stewer.
4. Compile a worry list. Over a period of days, record your thoughts. Review them and see how many of them turned into a reality?
5. Evaluate your worry categories. Your list will highlight themes of worry. Pray specifically about them.
6. Focus on today. God meets daily needs daily. Not weekly or annually. He will give you what you need when it is needed.
7. Unleash a worry army. Share your feelings with a few loved ones. Ask them to pray with and for you.
8. Let God be enough. "Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need" (Matt. 6:32)

Eight Steps: {P}ray, {E}asy now, {A}ct on it, {C}ompile a worry list. {E}valuate your worry categories. {F}ocus on today. {U}nleash a worry army. {L}et God be enough.
